Director of Channel and Alliances

The Director of Channel and Alliances is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive Channels and Alliance strategy to drive revenue through the channel, enhance the MuleSource Brand, create leads and shorten the sales cycle. This position will also be responsible for the identification and realization of attractive growth and alliance opportunities.

  • Business Strategy Development - Define, refine, test and implement strategic partner plans. These activities include primary research, industry, market and competitive analysis, customer needs assessment. Define the partner roadmap in the long, mid and short term.
  • Alliance Development - Identify, build, and manage long-term relationships with strategic partners--both System Integrators and Technology. Initiate and complete proposals, presentations, terms and conditions, negotiations and execution of Agreements.
  • Reseller Development - Identify, build and manage long-term relationships with resellers. Provide sales training, pre-sales training and ensure the reseller is sales ready. Support proposal request and manage and report on reseller performance
  • Partner Portfolio Management - Develop an extensive set of partner products or offerings that are built on MuleSource products. These activities include working with the Partner, Engineering, Product Marketing and Management to determine and define the value of the products or offerings.
  • Partner Channel Strategy Development - As new products are being developed, or new technologies/products acquired, work with the Partner community, Marketing and Engineering to develop strategies to dominate specific vertical or regions where MuleSource relies on channels.

    This position will require approximately 50+% travel and will eventually include hiring, training, and managing a group of Alliance Managers.

    Engineering: Director, Product Management or Manager, Product Management

    This is a very senior product management role, and you will be the sole product manager within the company. You will be responsible for the overall product roadmap for Mule. You also thrive on writing product requirements, product specifications, and doing demos. You will also be responsible for translating customer requirements into technology requirements. The successful candidate can play a wide variety of roles: pre-sales, post-sales, technical marketing, community evangelist, and partner.

    Requirements:

    • Create vision and product strategy for Mule ESB product line.
    • Define and communicate the product roadmap.
    • Work with key customers, prospects, and partners to identify opportunities in the market, and prioritize and recommend approaches to meeting them.
    • Deliver and drive the product planning process, including delivery of detailed and accurate product requirements.
    • Create and deliver all required product documentation (MRDs, PRDs, specs, documentation, white papers, data sheets etc.)
    • Ability to quickly create compelling product demos and presentations.
    • Work closely with engineering to translate customer requirements into product features.
    • Work across the organization to serve as the glue between sales, pre-sales, professional services, business development, customer support, training, and engineering teams.
    • Work with support and/or product development personnel to troubleshoot and workaround product issues.
    • File enhancement requests and work with product management / product marketing to understand requested product enhancements.
    • Minimum 5+ years product management experience in the enterprise, SaaS, or open source software industry.
    • Good broad understanding of Java, J2EE, integration, web services, middleware, database, and Internet protocols.
    • Excellent organizational skills -- ability to prioritize, manage, multi-task and execute multiple projects.
    • Superior communications skills (presentation, written, and verbal) and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of executive staff.
    • Ability to manage ambiguity and make quick, accurate and appropriate decisions.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to navigate challenging situations in a professional manner.
    • ESB or integration product management experience preferred.

    This is a key very senior technologist role on core engineering team. You thrive on taking on challenging, cutting edge design and implementation challenges, and you are able to innovate in Internet time using the latest open source technologies and tools. You write clean, efficient, maintainable code, and you are up to the challenge of 1000+ eyeballs reading your code every day. You are able to communicate extremely well to both technologists and non-technologists.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum 10+ years implementing and supporting complex enterprise software product development.
    • Expertise with Java/J2EE software and technologies.
    • Experience in developing enterprise level Java technologies in a Unix/Linux environment.
    • Mastery of two or more of the following: Web Services, SOA, ESB, EAI, SaaS, MOM, and/or integration frameworks.

    Engineering: Technical Support Engineers

    In this role you will work directly with customers via our online support portal and occasionally through email, calls and instant messaging.

    You will need to respond to questions and issues that will range from guidance in the implementation and use of our Java based products through to investigating complex issues typically utilising technologies such as web services or protocols such as http and JMS, etc

    Requirements:

    • Minimum 2 year of software support experience or software development preferably in Java or other object oriented languages.
    • Preferably in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in IT or equivalent industry experience.
    • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
    • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to understand and explain related technical issues to a variety of audiences, including enterprise clients and experienced software and service developers.
    • Experience coding or debugging against Java APIs
    • Preferably experience with XML, JMS, WS* and SOA
    • Experience using the Eclipse IDE and Maven is beneficial
    • Experience working with Java applications in various containers and application servers is a plus (Tomcat, JBoss, Spring, WebSphere, etc.)
    • Integration product support is preferred (but not required). Other integration vendors include IBM, BEA, Oracle, Tibco, etc. Knowledge of Open Source business and/or past contributions to open source projects is also favorable

    Professional Services: Manager, Education Services

    The Education Services Manager will lead the training development and delivery effort. He/She will work closely with the Director, Support and Services to define and implement new strategic plans and business objectives for educational offerings, and opportunities for expansion and delivery strategies of our educational curriculum.

    Job responsibilities:

  • Advance MuleSource educational services capabilities and enhance the company’s ability to grow this practice
  • Ensure MuleSource delivers consistent, high quality educational services that meet our customer and partner needs
  • Work with others across MuleSource to standardize education offerings, including but not limited to course curriculum standards, instructor guide standards and delivery channels (client on-site classroom training, seminars, web-based training, tutorials, etc.).
  • Plan, lead and manage the activities of MuleSource and Partner instructors in performing both curriculum development and classroom delivery
  • Develop enterprise product training content with collaboration from the Engineering team
  • Deliver training presentations and classes with lab sessions

    Professional Services: Solutions Architect

    The Solutions Architect will be able to articulate and demonstrate MuleSource’s solutions, influence customer's technical requirements, and position solutions relative to competition. The candidate will accompany sales team members on various prospect meetings to supply full technical support and knowledge regarding the product in question. Review customer integration requirements and assist with the development of all required documentation (Requirements, Design Docs, Test Cases, etc.) Design customer integration solutions to meet best practices and seamlessly integrate with existing architectures and tools. Participate in project review meetings with customers' technical personnel to address technical and functional requirements or questions. Recognize and escalate difficult technical / business issues within the Sales, Customer Support, and Engineering organizations.     Technical Publications: Senior API Technical Writer

    The Senior API Technical Writer will create documentation for internal and external developers. This is not an average staff API writer position but is for someone who is truly passionate about developer documentation. The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated to develop, maintain, and consistently improve the developer documentation with minimal guidance and to be an advocate for the developer community. Only candidates with both outstanding writing skills and strong programming knowledge will be considered. Job responsibilities:

  • Work with minimal supervision to design and create documentation for developers creating Java applications and for Mule programmers who extend the underlying technology
  • Monitor Wiki pages, community user lists, knowledge base articles, and checkin notices on an ongoing basis to discover use cases, solutions, examples, and changes that must be documented
  • Work closely with remote engineers around the world to understand the technology and develop and review the materials
  • Master new technology and features during each release
  • Work closely with the Director of Technical Publications to create and maintain the documentation schedule, deliver on the documentation roadmap, and help take the Mule documentation set from the current Wiki pages to world-class professional documentation
  • Work closely with the Manager of Education Services to enhance the training materials, share content between the slides and the documentation, and help make documentation an integrated part of the training.

    Requirements:

    • 8+ years experience creating technical documentation, 5+ years for a developer audience
    • Outstanding technical writing, editing, and content organization skills.
    • Thorough, second-nature understanding of J2EE, SOA, and XML
    • Experience reading Java code and writing task-based developer guides, not just API reference guides
    • Ability to quickly and independently learn complex subject matter and translate it into clear content for technical audiences
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
    • Excellent time-management and organizational skills, ability to filter and manage lots of incoming communication without becoming distracted from higher-priority tasks, and get the job done in normal work hours
    • Strict adherence to style and template guidelines, writing conventions, and correct grammar and punctuation
    • BA/BS in Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field (or comparable work experience)
    • Experience working in a startup environment
    • Experience with middleware and ESBs highly desirable
